Summer update!
What, do I just update this website seasonally? That really seems to be my timeline…
Storm’s Break has been out now for close to three months, and has been met with excellent reviews! I decided to step away from the main Dynasty of Storms saga for a moment to work on one of the side books in the series, called Songs of the Northlands. It is a collection of five stories set in the kingdom just north of Lonwick, covering a span of about 200 years, the earliest being set during the dwarven civil war in Lonwick, and the latest occurring just after the events of Thunderbolt, right before the first chapter of Storm’s Break. I have two of the stories complete in rough form at this point, and I’m about 40% of the way through the third (and longest) story in the book. I expect to wrap it up by the end of June, if I can keep my momentum up. Finger’s crossed!
After this, I have two more stories to write, both of them much shorter than the one I am working on right now (15,000 and 10,000 words, respectively), and then an epilogue that helps place the stories into the timeline and tie up any loose ends. That is what is on the docket for July, with a goal of wrapping up the rough draft before August 1st.
The first of August is, coincidentally, the one year anniversary of me becoming a full-time writer! Funny how those things work. I guess that’s what happens when you pick the beginning of a month to make a major life change, huh?
I’ll be honest, I’m struggling a bit to hit my word counts, what with some very involved projects I have for this summer. I have a very aggressive daily goal of 2600 words for the rest of the month, hoping for more, which is well over NaNoWriMo levels of word counts (1,666 words per day). I don’t want to eat into July with this story, as that will increase my more conservative July goal of 1,000 words a day to finish on schedule, but if I have to, well, I have to. After all, between December 17th and January 27th, I did over 70,000 words, so it’s within my range. I should be able to do this, right?
… right?
Anyhow, I’m at about 225 words for the day, leaving me with 2,375 more to go. I’m gonna get back at it, and see if I can remember to post more frequent updates than this. I’ll try to update the world section of the website soon to reflect some of the changes and evolutions that occurred as I have written.
Thanks for reading!
